Antonio told his friends in the Act 1 Scene 1 that his profit is not on one ship not in one direction but when Bassanio asked Antonio for 3000 ducts then Antonio was not capable of giving the money as his profit and investments were all in sea and till the time the ship will not return he can't give his friend Bassanio any money.
