Phenols are a class of chemical compounds containing a hydroxyl group. They are directly bonded with aromatic hydrocarbon group. Phenol is the simplest class and it is normally called Carbolic Acid.
Phenols cannot be classified as alcohols as they are unique and have different kind of bonding.

In the organic chemistry, phenols are the group of chemical compounds which consist of a hydroxyl group (—OH) and those hydroxyl groups get bonded directly to an aromatic hydrocarbon group.
Phenols are sometimes called as phenolics.
Based on the number of phenol units present in the molecule, they are classified into two.
One is simple phenol, and another one is polyphenols.
