Required Answer:

⟶ Plastids are the cell organelles present only in plant cells. They contain pigments.

Chloroplast

  • It contains chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments. These pigments are responsible for trapping light energy which is necessary for photosynthesis.
  • In mesophyll cells of the leaves in green plants, the majority of chloroplasts are found.

Shape - oval, lens-shaped, spherical, discoid.

  • They are double membrane-bound. And the inner membrane is less permeable.
  • Storma - The space limited by the inner membrane of the chloroplast.
  • Thylakoid - Many numbers of organised flattened membranous sacs.
  • Thylakoids are arranged in stacks like piles of coins called grana (Singular is granum).
  • Stoma Lamella - Flat membranous tubules that connect thylakoids.
