Plastids are only present in plant cells. Depending upon the pigments present in them. Plastids have their own DNA and ribosomes. They are known as semi-autonomous bodies.

There are three different types of plastids:

* Leucoplast: provides white or cream colour. Helps in storage of food.

* Chromoplast: provides red, brown colour. It gives colour to the fruit of the plant.

* Chloroplast: provides green colour and helps in photosynthesis.
