Polar satellite: It is a satellite that revolves around the earth in its polar orbit (perpendicular to the equatorial plane). As the earth rotates about its axis, a polar satellite successively passes through different points on the earth's surface, hence scanning the entire earth. Examples are: SPOT, IERS, etc..

- It orbits around 500-800 km above earth's surface.
