graphite has high melting point, similar to that of diamond. In order to melt graphite, it is not enough to loosen one sheet from another. You have to break the covalent bonding throughout the whole structure. It has a soft, sleepers feel, and is used in pencils. It is a non metal but good conductor of electricity. It is obtain from carbon bonding.
