Inflorescence refers to the arrangement of group of flowers present on modified shoot apical meristem (i.e peduncle).

It is classified as:-

Racemose:- In this type flowers are arranged actropetally (i.e old flowers are arranged at lower side whereas young ones are present on the upper side). These are present continuously on the inflorescence axis .

  • The growth of peduncle is unlimited here.

  • Examples include mustard and radish etc .

Cymose:- here the flowers are produced basipetally.

  • The growth of the peduncle is limited

  • Examples include Bouganvillia and Solanum etc.
