Receptor :

It is a cell or group of cells specialised to detect a particular stimulus and to initiate the transmission of impulses via the sensory nerves.

The receptors pass information to the brain through a type of nerve cells called sensory neurones.

There are 5 types of receptors :

  • Photoreceptor (Eyes) : For light
  • Phono receptor (Ears) : For sound
  • Gustatory receptor (Tongue) : For taste
  • Olfactory receptor (Nose) : For smell
  • Thigmo receptor (Skin) : For touch
