Andhra Pradesh (AP) Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has promised to unveil a transparent and responsive grassroots based administration in the state within a year. Making select announcements from his time targeted plan for clean, corrupt free governance, Jagan declared soon, after he was sworn in by the state's governor E L Narasimhan, that an exclusive call centre will be established by August 15. It will enable citizens to dial the Chief Minister's Office with their gripes.
He is likely to constitute his ministry on June 7 and has already asked state chief secretary L.V. Subrahmanyam to make arrangements for the budget session of the new state assembly in the last week of June. For an auspicious beginning with a thanksgiving, Jagan relied on the precedent of his father Dr YS Rajasekhar Reddy to sign a people centric file soon after he took the oath at the packed Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium.
Jagan signed the file raising the old age pensions under the new YSR Pension Scheme from Rs1,000 to Rs 2,250 to the indigent elderly from June 2019. "The party manifesto is my Bible and we have promised to grant Rs 3,000 a month. This will be done progressively in the next three years," explained Jagan. In an immediate initiative to create jobs, Jagan has announced that there will be village volunteer for every fifty homes in the state. "They will be appointed by August 15 and be paid Rs 5,000 a month so that they can be an effective link between the people and the government.
About four lakh such opportunities will be created which youth can take up until they are able to get better jobs. Their task will be to bring to the notice of the government if citizens are unable to avail benefits of any scheme and facilitate villagers who may not be aware of how to about it," explained Jagan. To top it, by October 2, Jagan's plan is to have a ten person grama sachivalayam (village secretariat) so that governance can be availed of at the village level instead of forcing people to travel to the district headquarters or the state capital.
"These measures will be able to check corruption at all levels in the administration," emphasized the chief minister.
He is also planning to raise the number of districts from13 to 25, possibly making it coterminous with a Lok Sabha constituency, to increase people's access to the administration.
However, the ruling YSRC boss baited his predecessor N. Chandrababu Naidu and a section of the media that backed his Telugu Desam Party wholly by saying that their acts will be exposed by judicial and other inquiries.
"Many contracts were awarded at unusually high bids or on nomination basis for their benefit. We will expose this through probes and go in for rectifying it through reverse bidding," said Jagan.
Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and the DMK president MK Stalin were the prominent representatives of other political parties who attended the swearing in ceremony.
