A Self Help Group is an association of the poor people specially women who belong to the same social & economic background.

chidvilash: The most important functions of aSelf-Help Groups are (a) to encourage and motivate its members to save, (b) to persuade them to make a collective plan for generation of additional income, and (c) to act as a conduit for formal banking services to reach them.

Self-help Group:

Self-help Group is small groups of rural people. They could be 10-15 people mainly women 15-20 who belong to the same neighbourhood. They meet together and combine their savings on a regular basis.  

Aim and importance of Self-help Group:

The members of the group are eligible to take small loan to meet their needs on interest rates which are low.

The decisions in regards to the ‘savings and loan activities’ are taken by the ‘group members’. The group decides on the sanctioning of the loans and they decide on the purpose, amount, interest to be charged, repayment schedule and more details about the loans.
