Those neurons which carry impulses from sense organs (receptors) to the central nervous system are called sensory neurons. Their function is to travel sense impulses from receptors to brain.

And, those neurons which carry impulses from the central nervous system to the effectors (Glands and muscle cells) are called motor neurons. Their function is to deliver the brain's command to effectors.

The sensory and motor neurons help in reflex actions that are performed by spinal cord..The stimulus acts on the receptor and from the receptor the message is transferred by sensory neurons to the spinal cord and the spinal cord through the motor neurons give instruction to the effector to perform a certain function like removing hand from a hot object..
