What are sigma and pi bonds ? why is a sigma bond stranger than a pi bond?

sigma bonds are the single bonds and are also known as covalent bonds as the mutual sharing of electrons takes place and these are much more stronger than the pi bonds or the double bonds because the are bonded strongly to each other and we need to pass ionisation energy in order to break this bond

Sigma bond:the bond is formed by end to end over lapping.

Pi bond : the bond is formed by side wise side wise over lapping.


The Sigma bond is stronger bond because there is more over lapping.
