a calcareous mound built up of layers of lime-secreting cyanobacteria and trapped sediment, found in Precambrian rocks as the earliest known fossils, and still being formed in lagoons in Australasia.

Stromatolites are sedimentary rocks. It is a type of mound. It arranged as a sheet.

They generally, extincts in marine environments. Such as in coastal areas. And other semi-watery areas like, rivers and lakes.
