Strong acid:-

  • An acid that completely ionise and provide the maximum concentration of hydronium ions in an aqueous solution can be called a strong acid.

  • Example of strong acids are: HBr (hydrobromic acid), HClO₄ (perchloric acid), HI (hydroiodic acid), etc.

Weak acid:-

  • An acid that does not completely ionise and provides only a smaller concentration of hydronium ions in an aqueous solution can be called a weak acid.

  • Examples of weak acids are: lactic acid, phosphoric acid, sulphurous acid, etc.

Examples of Strong acids:-

1.Hydrochloric acid (HCl).

2.Sulphuric acid (H₂SO₄).

3.Nitric acid (HNO₃).

Examples of Weak acids:-

1.Citric acid (C₆H₈O₇).

2.Acetic acid (CH₃COOH).

3.Formic acid (CH₂O₂).
