A structural isomer, or constitutional isomer, is a type of isomer in which molecules with the same molecular formula have different bonding patterns and atomic organization, as opposed to stereoisomers, in which molecular bonds are always in the same order and only spatial arrangement differs

Butane is the first member of alkane that show structural isomerism

hope it help u mark me

Structural isomers :

Compounds which share the same structural formula but has different structure, in other words Different arrangement of atoms.

Alkanes are saturated hydrocarbons. General formula of Alkanes is

C_{n}H_{2n+2} \\

When n = 1, The compound is Methane, CH4

Methane doesn't show structural isomerism.

When n = 2, The compound is Ethane, C2H6

Ethane too doesn't show structural isomerism

When n = 3, The compound is Propane, C3H8

Propane too doesn't show structural isomerism

When n =4, The compound is Butane, C4H10

Butane shows structural isomerism.

The two structural isomers are,

  1. n - butane ( but-1-ane)
  2. iso-butane ( 2-methyl propane)

Therefore, The first member of Alkanes to show structural isomerism is Butane.
