  • The different taxonomic aids include herbarium, museum, zoological parks or zoos, key, catalogue, monograph, manual and flora.

Herbarium is said to be a store house of collected plant specimen which are dried and preserved.

Botanical gardens are specialised gardens which are used to study living plants.

Museums are set up for educational purposes and have collections of preserved plants and animals specimens.

Zoological Parks are specialised places where wild animals are kept in protected environment and human care.

Key is a taxonomical aid which is used for identification of plants and animals based on the similarities and dissimilarities. Here, we use two contrasting characters which are generally written in pair called couplet.

Catalogue is simply a procedure of listing all species in an organised manner alphabetically.

Monograph is simply a systematic study of a particular taxon for a taxonomic group.
