Answer:

As I first read the poem, it reminded me of the speaker taking wild guesses referring to the Urn, “What leaf-fringed legend haunts about thy shape?”, and described the possibility that the images on the urn may be human or immortals. However the speaker goes in more depth in describing not just the material descriptions of the Urn but the story behind the art as if a song is being played as the story unfolds. The speaker seems to describe this “green alter” as some sort of platform for sacrificial use but again the speaker is asking a question as if unsure. However after observing the artwork and reading the poem again, I have had a different perspective. By the end of the poem, the overall tone of the speaker seems to be of awe, especially in relation to the line, “Beauty is Truth, truth beauty”. The whole purpose of the poems seems to describe the urn and its form of art for the ‘sake of art’. Also concerning his description of generations after generation, the speaker seems to relate that although time is passing, the story, the art and its purpose instilled in the urn will forever live on although time changes many things. The speaker seems to be inspired by the urn which seems to capture a part of a frozen moment of an artistic beauty.
