an anticyclone is a high pressure system with winds blowing outwards from a centre of high pressure.
It's characteristics are:
1. In anticyclones, the air is sinking and warm. As warmer air can hold more water vapour, clouds are unlikely to form.
2. Anticyclones can become stationary, giving settled weather , clear skies and calm winds.
3. The winds blow clockwork in the northern hemisphere and anticlockwise in the southern hemisphere.
