The term Renaissance, literally means "rebirth" and is the period in European civilization immediately following the Middle Ages, conventionally held to have been characterized by a surge of interest in classical learning and values. Now let me explain what that meant in Renaissance times. The Renaissance also witnessed the discovery and exploration of new continents, and the growth of commerce, and the inventions. To the scholars and thinkers of the day,it was primarily a time of the revival of classical learning and wisdom after a long period of cultural decline. The Renaissance did not so much result in a change in subjects of study as it did in establishing a new viewpoint from which well-known facts may be considered.
The overall feature of the Renaissance was Enlightenment.  It was the ability of an individual to think on his own, to stir away from the common norm of society. This was the main highlight of the era. Science was starting to gain prominence amongst the community. hope this was helpful !
