(a) acids: solutions which turn blue litmus red,

they release h+ ions,

they are sour in taste

eg:- hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, sulphuric acid etc.

bases:- solutions which turn red litmus blue,

they release oh- ions,

they are bitter in taste and soapy to touch.

eg:- sodium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, baking soda etc.

(b) ACIDS conduct electricity in the aqueous state as they release h+ ions in the presence of water .
