What are the advantages and disadvantages of Active filter?
Answers
In no particular order .....
At low frequencies the necessarily high values of L and C can result in an inconveniently large size.
An active filter, which can be designed to exhibit and work with higher impedance values means that smaller values of C can be used.
Additionally the use of a gyrator configuration can eliminate the need for L.
A passive filter is inherently lossy, at least to some extent.
An active filter can have gain.
An active filter is usually smaller than a passive one.
A passive filter doesn't require a power source.
Explanation:
» As OP-AMP has a finite gain bandwidth product, Active filters are limited in their frequency Range. »It requires D.C power supply for their operation. »Active filter can't handle large amount of power. » it are only suitable for low or moderate frequiencies.
