What are advantages and disadvantages of Gurukuls in the Vedic period?

Does a person get a salary at SBI during the probation period or do we have to pay the training fees?

As a supplement to the great answers already given, the Gurukul was the original Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS).

The only thing the boys brought for enrolment was a bunch of fire-wood. Once accepted everything was supplied, learning, food, clothing, bedding etc. The students were expected to do some chores around the compound.

Once they graduated after 12 years, they were exhorted to find work and to lead productive lives and then when they had the means, to return to pay the teacher in kind - i.e. whatever he needed to continue the teaching program.

Hope it helps...
