Alimentary canal has mainly four layers:-
1. Serosa:- It is the outer most layer of the alimentary canal or of gut which is known as tunica adventitia.
- It is made up of connective tissue with mesothelium which is very thin known as (visceral peritonium).
- Tunica adventitia is formed by areolar connective tissue white fibrous connective tissue.
2. Muscle layer:- It is the inner layer specially the inner layer and longitudinal outer layer of smooth muscle.
- In stomach the thickest layer is found while thinest layer is found in the rectum.
3. Sub mucosa:- It is formed by blood lymph, nerves with the help of loose connective tissue.
4. Mucosa:- It is the inner layer most layer of the gut.
- It contains the secretory cells.
- It also contains absorptive cells.
