If you believe in "Karma works" then :-

1) you reap what you sow

2) Being respectful gives you a bureaucratic edge over your colleagues

3) It gives you a way out of an unwanted diplomatic decision in a simple, non-offensive approach

4) Might help in making a good first impression

5) Will keep you off the offensive

6) You will have a chance to retaliate if things go wrong, you can simply say "It wasn't my fault, I was being nice to you and you messed it up" . Helps to get out of terrible oral tactical situations .

7) You won't be at anybody's doubts .

omshree22: this answer is suited for executive class . Employee behaviour might vary .
