Main causes were:
1.Autocratic rule of Tsars: In 1914, the Russian emperor was Tsar Nicholas 2. He fought a number of wars to expand his empire in north and west in Europe.he has borne the expenditure of wars by taxing the common people of Russia.
2.conditins of peasants: Majority of the Russians were agricultuarists. Major part of the land was owned by nobles and clergy and these peasnats worked as farmers on daily wages. They paid less and worked more and sometimes under debt, they were not even paid wages.
3. Status of industries: Industry was found in pockets . prominent industrial ares were st. Petersburg and Moscow. Craftsmen undertook much of the production , but large factories exisited alongside crafts workshops. foreign inveastments in industrise increased with the extension of Russia 's railway network.
4.Conditions of workers in the industries: Most industries were owned by private industrialists.women workers were paid less than men. Some workers formed associations to help memebers in times of unemployment and financial harships.
5.Formation of socialist parties: All parties were illlegal in Russia before 1914. But because of government policies, it had to operate secretly. It set up a newspapaer , mobilised workers and organised strikes.
