The non-cooperation movement gained momentum through 1921-22.Thousands of students left government- controlled schools and colleges.British titles were surrendered and legislatures boycotted.People lit public bonfires of foreign cloth.Large parts of the country were on the brink of a formidable revolt.

Rowlatt act: During the first world war the British took promise that they would liberate India from the colonialism. But after the war, they imposed the ill famous Rowlatt act. The main provision of this act was that the British can arrest any India without any trial and put in the prison for 2 years. The people of India became furious and started the non-cooperation movement.
Incident of Jallianwalla Bagh:To protest the Rowlatt act Indians gathered at the Jallianwalla Bagh of Amritsar. Some people also had come to attend the annual Baisakhi fair. They were unaware of Martial law that have been imposed by army general dyer. When people gathered at that place dyer blocked the exist points and open fire on the crowd. It resulted the death of almost 100 people. The people become dis-satisfied and started the non-cooperation movement.
Problems regarding Turkey :after the first world war the power and prestige of head man of the Muslim 'khalifa' was reduced. All the Muslim people felt discontentment and wanted to start non-cooperation movement to restore the power and prestige of khalifa. Thus, khilafat movement was started by Mohammad Ali and Shaukat Ali.
