Explanation:

Bharata Natyam is one of the oldest dance forms of India. It was sustained in the temples and courts of southern India since ancient occasions. Later it was arranged and documented as a performing art in the nineteenth century by four brothers known as the Tanjore Quartet whose musical pieces for dance form the greater part of the Bharata Natyam repertoire even today. The art was handed down as a living tradition from generation to generation under the Devadasi framework under which women were dedicated to temples to serve the divinity as dancers and musicians forming part of the elaborate rituals. These exceedingly talented artists and the male masters (nattuvanars) were the sole repositories of the art until the early twentieth century when a renewal of interest in India's cultural heritage provoked the educated tip top to discover its beauty.
