1. It should have a low melting point, so that it melts easily when heat is formed due to flow of heavy current through the wire.
2. It should have high resistivity, so that when heavy current flows through the wire, a huge amount of heat is produced which helps the fuse wire to melt easily.
Characteristics of a heating coil is that, of should have a high resistivity or resistance, so that when current is passed through the coil, a huge amount of heat is produced which is enough to heat any object. A nichrome wire is preferred for making heating element of the appliances like geyser, toaster, etc.
