Red soils generally occur in areas with humid subtropical climatic conditions which leads to leaching of bases and enrichment of iron oxides/ sesquoxides. the red color is due to iron oxides present in their oxidized condition. These soils are low in organic matter, N, P and K and often acidic to neutral in reaction. They are well drained porous soils, generally shallow depth.
