Answer:

A wave is a periodic oscillation.

The characteristics of wave are :-

  • Wavelength - It is represent with the symbol 'lambda'. It's S.I unit is metre(m).

  • Frequency - It is defined as the number of oscillations per second. Its unit is hertz (Hz) or second ¯¹.

  • Velocity of wave - It is the displacement by a wave per time. It's unit is ms¯1.Velocity =wavelength ×frequency.

  • Time period - It the time taken to complete one oscillation. It's unit is expressed in seconds.

Time period =frequency¯¹.

  • Wave number - Number of waves in one unit length. Its unit is m¯¹.
