The Prince of Arragon was very proud and he came to win Portia. He chose golden casket thinking that as gold denotes richness Portia must also be rich, but his guess proved wrong.

Both are suitors to Portia. In Belmont, Portia is awash with suitors. Her father left a will which says, her suitors must choose correctly from one of 3 casket which had gold, silver and lead. If he picks the right casket, he gets Portia.

The 1st suitor is Princess morocco who choose the gold casket and
"Who choose me shall gain what many men desire" thinking he is he best among others.

The 2nd suitor is Princess Arragon who choose the silver casket and said
"Choose me and get what you deserve "Due to his huge ego and over-inflated opinions of himself, he probably thinks that he will get great things because of this - all the ordinary superficial things that most humans want such as money, power, luxury and the attentions that come with that.

Both suitors leave empty-handed, having rejected the lead casket because of the baseness of its material

The 3rd one is our hero
Bassanio.
