After the end of first world War there were rumors about that a harsh peace treaty was imposed on the Khalifa. Muslims felt very oppressed by this act of britishers. They wanted to protest against it. Gandhi ji saw this as an opportunity to unite Muslims with Hindus. He launched khilafat movement to oppose it with the collaboration of both Hindus and Muslims. This gave a huge boost to the growth of nationalism in India.
