Components of Food

We eat different meals in a day and a meal could consist of bread omlette and milk in Breakfast, Rice, daal (pulses, vegetable, curd, and salad) in Lunch and chapatti potato chips or burger in snacks and fish curry in Dinner. We eat food not just to stop rumbling sound that comes from our stomach when we are hungry but also to gain some energy to do work for whole day.

For a healthy heart, working muscles and active brain, we must eat a balanced diet that gives nutrients to our body. These nutrients will get you strong bones as well as energy. But do you know what nutrients are? No, let’s just read what it is?

What are Nutrients?

Each dish is made up of one or more ingredients which we get from animals and plants. These ingredients include important components that are needed by our body to function properly. And these components are called Nutrients. These nutrients in our food are named as fats, carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and minerals. Also, food contains water and dietary fibres which are needed by human body.

Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates acts as the main source of energy for the active brain. It includes breads, fruits, grains, sugar and vegetables. Make sure to consume whole grains once in a day as whole grains and fruits are full of fiber which reduces the risk of heart diseases.

Proteins

Protein is the main structural component of cells and helps in building the body tissue. It breaks down into amino acids, which are building blocks of protein. Some of the Protein sources like low-fat meat, beans, eggs and beans should be consumed

Fats

Fat is a source of energy that is consumed to increase the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins. Consume healthy sources like walnuts, fish, vegetable-based oils for development and growth.

Vitamins

Vitamins provide structure to the blood vessels, ligaments and bone. Sources like strawberries, peppers helps to prevent birth defects.

Minerals

Proper intake of sodium helps to maintain fluid volume of the cells and helps them to function normally. Bananas, tomatoes and potatoes are rich sources of minerals. Consume proper amount of calcium to build strong bones and teeth.
