The chemical name of plaster of Paris is calcium sulphate hemihydrate because half molecule of water is attached with calcium sulphate. The chemical formula of plaster of Paris is is CaSO4.1/2H2O.

Plaster of paris, quick setting gypsum plaster consisting of a fine white powder ( calcium sulphate hemihydrate), which harden when moistened and allowed to dry. known since ancient time, plaster of paris is so called because of its prepartion from the abundant gypsum found near Paris.
