Pandit Ishwar chandra Vidyasagar was a respectful leaderof our society . There were many reformers in nineteenth century but he was one prominent person among them. He had done many things for Bengali education, society and women. He was also a legend in women education. He wrote many books for the bengali students.
The efforts of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar for Bengal
In nineteen century, out religion and social and normal degradation become prominent due to the western fusion in our society. And from that the change started. Rammohon Roy tried to change the society through a new religion, Derojio's group tried by attacking the Hinduism to change it. But Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar only concentrated on the social and educational system.
According to his belief, only education can change the thoughts of the society. That's why he started educational reform. His main goal was to spread the utility of education to the grass root level of the society. That's why he started teaching in mother tongue, and also started writing text books in Bengali. He also wanted to clear the unscientific effects of the society and that's why he emphasizes on western mathematics, philosophy and science in the educational system.
As his early life was spent in village, he was more aware about the pains and sufferings of women. To save these suffering women he started to educate them. He established many model girl schools by spending his own hard earned money. In the same way others were eager to do something in this regard, he always helped them. In 1849 he helped to establish 'Hindu Female School', which is now a day’s famous as Be.
