Hi friend!

The arrangement of plants and animals in distinct groups based on their similarities and dissimilarities among them is called Classification.

Criteria followed for classification :

1. There is a large number of plants and animals on the earth because of which classification is done on the basis of their shape, size, structure, habit, habitat and mode of nutrition.

2. While classifying the organisms each and every organism is ascertained with scientific name, i.e., nomenclature. These are simple precise and meaningful.

3. The classification is done by keeping in mind that the classification should be able to explain unity in diversity.

4. The classification of organisms is also by giving binomial nomenclature where binomial name of the organisms must have two Latin or Greek words. The generic name should be a simple moun while the specific name should be a descriptive adjective. The generic as well as specific name should not have less than thirteen letters.
