Answer:
The Effects of Syrian Refugee Crises on Europe from the Lens of the Social Constructivist Approach Abstract The conflict in Syria, begun in 2011, has resulted in devastating consequences, including 250,000 Syrian people dead, 7.6 million displaced, and 4.5 million migrating into neighboring countries. In addition, the conflict has incurred a variety of negative social and economic effects upon many countries in the region and in Europe. The European countries mostly affected from this refugee crisis are the ones that have become important final destinations for these people hoping to find better conditions in which to live and the others such as Greece and Italy that have become transit routes. Although the immigration and refugee problem is not a new issue for Europe, many European countries have perceived most of these Syrian refugees and migrants as a significant threat to the fabric of their respective societies. On the EU level, member-states have taken contrasting stances on the problem, and the gap in the attitudes and the opinions of European leaders is remarkable. Especially since the beginning of 2015, the European identity, which integrates such values as tolerance, human rights, and solidarity among others, has been called into question, and, it is worth looking deeply into the main reasons for this differentiation since the onset of the conflict. The immigration and refugee problem should not be associated with only economic aspects. Other issues, such as identity, norms, interests, and security, are of crucial importance in comprehending the refugee crisis and its effects on the local, national, and international level. From the social constructivist approach, the effects of the refugee crisis on various European countries can be explained not only with regard to economics, but as a result of subsequent on identities and norms as well.
