1. Reproduction : Reproduction occur by various means ( Fungi reproduce by the millions of spores they produce ; Yeast and Hydra show budding, Planaria show true regeneration ; Funhi, filamentous algae and protonema of mosses show fragmentation)
2. Growth : Increase in mass and increase in number of cells are twin characteristics of growth. Plants grow throughout life, but animals grow only for a certain period of their lifetime.
3. Cellular Organisation : characteristics feature of living organisms.. non-living organisms do not have cellular organisation.
4. Metabolism : Sum total of all reactions occurring within a body. Isolated metabolic reaction performed in-vitro (inside a test tube) are not living beings, but surely living reactions.
