The highest power in a polynomial is called it's degree.

For example,
in x⁴ + 2x³ + 3x² + 6x - 8

Here 4 is the degree of the polynomial.

Highest degree of any variable with non-zero coefficient is called degree of any polynomial.
For example: x^2+y+6 be a polynomial.

Here the degree of plynomial is 2.
