Following are the differences between a prokaryotic and eukaryotic chromosome:

Explanation:

  • Prokaryotic chromosome is circular, extra ring like structure whereas eukaryotic chromosome is linear.

  • The chromosomes of a eukaryotic cell are enclosed in a well defined nucleus. On the other hand, prokaryotic cells lacks a well defined nucleus and their chromosome is dispersed in the cell.

  • The eukaryotic chromosomes contains DNA which undergoes complex coiling with histones. Prokaryotic chromosome lacks such complex coiling.
