● Difference between flow of matter & flow of energy through the ecosystem -
- Flow of matter is bidirectional while that of energy is unidirectional.
- Matter is transformed in the system and thus can be recycled.
- Energy is transferred to surrounding & thus can't be recycled.
- Matter is conserved but energy is lost when going to consumer level in ecosystem.
