Dear Student,

● Methods of contraception -

  • Natural methods
  • Barrier methods
  • Intrauterine devices
  • Hormonal methods
  • Emergency contraceptives
  • Tubectomy/Vasectomy

◆ Commonly used methods -

(a) Intrauterine contracepetive devices -

  • IUCDs (CuT, mirena) make uterus unsuitable for implantation of blastocyst.
  • They are to be inserted in female vagina by a simple OPD procedure.

(b) Condoms -

  • Condoms are barrier method of contraception and act by preventing deposition of sperms in female vagina.
  • They are to be worn over male penis.

(c) Vasectomy/Tubectomy -

  • These are permanent methods of contraception.
  • In males vas deferens is cut while fallopian tube is cut in females which stops transport of gamets.

Hope that is useful...
