Dear Student,
◆ Why does menstruation occur ?
- At start of the cycle, estrogen is secreted by the ovaries which prepares uterus for pregnancy by growth of endometrium.
- After half cycle, progesterone is released by ovary which also prepares endometrium for pregnancy.
- If the pregnancy doesn't occur, the uterus gets thickened.
- To release this extra tissue, shedding of endometrial lining occurs at the end of the cycle which we call menstruation.
Thanks dear.

Answer:
Menstruation occurs for the purpose of reproduction through pregnancy.
Explanation:
Menstruation is the process by which an adult female generates an egg which when fertilised can produce the human embryo resulting in pregnancy. Menstruation takes place through the ‘menstrual cycle’. This cycle prepares the ovary for pregnancy thickening its inner walls.
In day fourteen an egg is released which is provided with nutrition from the thickened ‘lining of the uterus’ in the case of implantation. Menstruation enables the process of reproduction and child birth in human beings.
