The different processes of break down of glucose are:
1) AEROBIC RESPIRATION
The respiration which takes place in the presence of oxygen is called aerobic respiration. In this case, food is completely oxidized into carbon dioxide and water and produces more energy.
Glucose-----> Pyruvate-----> carbon dioxide+ water + energy
(6 carbon (3 carbon
molecule) molecule)
2) ANAEROBIC RESPIRATION
The respiration which occurs in the absence of oxygen is called anaerobic respiration. It produces very less energy. It mainly occurs in yeast cells and human muscles during vigorous exercise.
a) In yeast cells
Glucose-----> Pyruvate-----> Ethanol+ carbon dioxide+ energy
b) In human muscles
Glucose----->Pyruvate----->Lactic acid+energy
Hope this helps u
