The different stage of development according to earnest Jones:

  • Ernest Jones was one of the initial British practitioners in the field of psychoanalysis. His contribution was the psychosexual developmental stage which was "The Early Development of Female Sexuality".
  • He used Freud’s theory to explain the phallic phase as a secondary, defensive construction instead of being a phase within its own right.
  • He believed that the Oedipus conflict is resolved in the same way for boys and girls when both either do away with their love-object or their own sex.
  • Ernest Jones was known for his contribution towards the theoretical and clinical contributions to psychoanalysis and the belief of female aphanisis which is a syndrome of psychic blankness.
  • His main contribution was the ‘Theory of Symbolism’ which suggests that what is repressed is symbolized and needs some form of expression to be understood.
