There are five main types of WBCs. They are: Neutrophils, Eosinophils, Basophils, Lymphocytes, and Monocytes. Neutrophils, eosinophils and basophils are also called granulocytes because they have granules in their cells that contain digestive enzymes.

◼It contains a respiratory pigment called haemoglobin (haemin - iron and Globin - protein) ehich combines with oxygen forming an unstable compound oxyhaemoglobin which readily gives up oxygen to all tissues.

◼Takes up carbondioxide from tissues to lungs.

◼The protect our body from any antigen that might have enterted in our body by engulfing it by process of phagocytosis.

◼They protect our body from poisonous substances by producing antitoxins and antibodies.

◼They are further of two types :-

▶Granular which have nucleus divided into lobes ,they are neurophills , eosinophills and basophills

▶Non granular and with a single large vacoule which are Lymphocytes and monocytes.

 \bold{Platelets \:(Thrombocytes)}

◼The allows the process of blood clotting when a blood vessel gets cut up to prevent further loss of blood and to prevent entry if antigen or any disease causing germs.
