Explanation:

My chosen narrative revolves around this 6th beatitude. This story is included in my textbook when I was in my senior year. Unfortunately, we did not have the chance of discussing it in class but I read it already before the school year started.

“Our Lady’s Juggler”, written by Anatole France, is a story about a juggler named Barnabas who became a monk who lived a life of simplicity and faith to the Lord.

After reading the title, I immediately thought of our Blessed Virgin Mary. I assumed that She interacted with the juggler. In the first part of the story, I felt pity on Barnabas because although he is a great juggler who performed magnificent tricks, he does not earn well and he is very poor. I admired his simplicity, honesty, humility, and faith despite the fact that he is a talented man worthy of all the praises from other people.

Barnabas met a monk to whom he had a conversation with. The monk told him that there is no finer calling than the monastic. It turned out that the monk he versed with was the Prior of the monastery. He assured Barnabas that he would enter the said monastery. Then, the feast came when each and every brother would offer something that involves one’s talents and skills that God has given them. The monks expressed their love to Mother Mary through writing books, carving statues, composing hymns and writings, and creating beautiful paintings. Secretly, Barnabas performed at his best in front of Mary’s statue. The Prior, together with two of the oldest brothers, saw this incident. They accused him of sacrilege and decided to remove him from the chapel when they saw Mary descending from the altar. She wiped the sweat from the juggler’s forehead and the three monks bowed down to the floor.

I presumed that Barnabas would enter a monastery when he met a Prior. I felt his intense faith to the Lord and that he is always ready to serve Him. I was delighted about the feast because I knew that he would perform at his best to express his great devotion to the Blessed Mother. I was disappointed with the other monks due to their lack of understanding to Barnabas. They immediately accused him of sacrilege which is a grave sin. But I was awed that Mary blessed the humble juggler who has a clean and pure heart.

After reading the story, I realized that truly, we don’t need riches, excessive talents and so much intelligence to be appreciated by God and Mary. All we need is a clean heart, full of virtues, to see God and feel His love and receive graces from above

"The Juggler of Our Lady" is the story of Barnaby, who left his juggling profession to become a monk, but was troubled by his incapacity of contributing to the monastery's artistic and literary life. Barnaby wanted to give Our Lady, the Virgin Mary, his juggling ability, and her statue was brought to his life. The narrative is a simple parable that promotes modest simplicity.

Explanation:

  • Barnaby had trouble working as a juggler while moving from city to city in France. Barnaby is described as a gentle man of God who has the endured  cold weather and other problems gratitude and patience for what he has. Barnaby encountered a monk one day and said that monastic life was solely devoted to praising God & Our Lady. For this devotional life Barnaby said to the monk that he would gladly abandon his juggling business. The monk was impacted by the simple faith of Barnaby and permitted him to enter the monastery.
  • Barnaby quickly had very little to say compared with the other monks, though. He became very disappointed. They had other gifts to glorify their Lord. They used them. When he heard the monk say a man's story who knew no prayers except the Hail Mary & Ave Mary, Barnaby didn't even know what he would be able to do. After the death of the man, the roses came out from his mouth, a wonderful indication of his sincere devotion 's heavenly approval.
  • Barnaby found himself worthless and incapable of doing something useful and good. He is neither devoted to working like the monks of the monastery nor was he talented like his brother. These reasons made him unhappy.
