Disadvantages of permanent settlement are:

1. When production increased, the company never benefited from it. Also, they could not increase the revenue as it was fixed.

2. The revenue to be payed to the company was very high. Also, the rent paid by the peasants to the Zamindars was equally high which made the lives of the cultivator difficult. They also took the loan for this, and when they were not able to pay the rent, they lost their land.

3. Zamindars who failed to pay the revenue to the company lost their title of Zamindari.

4. Zamindars never invested to improve the land production.

**Zamindars are basically landowners, ones who lease their land to tenant farmers.

**Zamindari's are the land held or administered by a zamindar.
