Threats to aquatic life
• Industrial waste water contains poisonous chemical like fluorides, alkalis, acids, etc. These Chemicals are very harmful to aquatic life.
• Oil leakage is one of the factors behind the loss of marine life as it leads to lesser supply of oxygen and sunlight to the aquatic animals.
• Water cleaning processes implemented by using heavy machines at times cause great damage to the aquatic life.
• Agricultural runoffs containing fertilizers act as source of nutrients to weeds and plants such as algae present in the water bodies. These we consume most of the dissolved oxygen and become a hindrance for the sunlight to enter the water bodies. Further, when these plant die, more oxygen is utilised by the bacteria to decompose the dead bodies leading to the decrease in oxygen content in water.
Threats to human beings
• The wastewater discharged from Industries, house and agricultural land is polluted with toxic chemical. Consumption ab Sach polluted water causes many water borne diseases like dysentery, cholera and so on.
• Pesticides from agriculture runoff leads to ill effect on the nervous system of the human beings.
• Consumption a water contaminated with mercury and other chemical compounds causes blurred vision, mental disorders, number of lips and limbs.
