The factors that contributed to the rapid growth of bhakti movement are:

The rigid caste system led to the exploitation and oppression of the lower castes especially the shudras.


The brahmanas introduced elaborate and meaningless rites and rituals which inflicted a crushing financial defeat on the poor people.


Some of the liberal minded Hindus appreciated the principles of equality, brotherhood and monotheism of islam which fostered the growth of the bhakti movement.
